Tentang Faikhu
Hi, I'm Fai. I'm a Jakarta-based tutor with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication Design from Universitas Negeri Semarang, and I've been teaching since 2021. My students range from 2nd graders to adults in their late 50s, so I've learned to adjust my pacing, tone, and materials to whoever is in front of me.
What shapes how I teach BIPA is the work I do outside the classroom. I've spent the past couple of years working with Jakarta's expat community, from coordinating monthly international events at ExpatNations to hosting and guiding international guests at Europe on Screen, Españolindo and Jakarta International Photo Festival. That means I know the situations you'll actually face: ordering food, talking to your driver or landlord, making small talk with neighbors, and getting through a work meeting.
I'm a native Indonesian speaker and fluent in English, so I can explain tricky points in English whenever you need. I've also studied Spanish and Japanese at a basic level, so I remember what it's like to be a beginner in a new language, and I keep lessons patient, practical, and never stiff.
My goal is simple: help you feel comfortable using Bahasa Indonesia in real life, not just pass a test.

This is a practical Bahasa Indonesia course for foreigners living, working, or studying in Jakarta. Instead of following a fixed textbook syllabus, I design a weekly curriculum around what you need Indonesian for, whether that's chatting with neighbors, dealing with drivers and landlords, ordering food, or getting through a day at work.
Who it's for:
- Expats, students, and professionals who are new to Indonesian or want to move past basic phrases
- Beginner to intermediate learners
- Adults who want to speak confidently in daily life, not just pass an exam
What we'll cover:
- Everyday conversation: markets, transport, restaurants, neighbors, and workplace small talk
- Pronunciation and the core grammar you'll actually use
- Vocabulary for living and working in Jakarta
- Language etiquette: when to say "Anda", "Bapak/Ibu", or "kamu", and how to sound polite without sounding stiff
- Cultural context behind the language, so you understand not just what people say, but why
How lessons work:
- At the start, we talk about your goals, your current level, and the situations you want to handle
- Each week's lesson plan is built from that, and adjusted as you progress
- Explanations are in English whenever you need them, and gradually shift to more Indonesian as you improve
Session length: 90 minutes
Frequency: 2 sessions per week
Program length: 8 weeks (16 sessions, about 24 hours in total)
This pace gives you enough time to learn and enough time to practice between lessons, which is what makes new vocabulary stick. If your schedule is tighter, we can do 60-minute sessions or once a week instead. Everything is adjustable to your needs, whether you want a short intensive course, a longer relaxed pace, or just a few sessions to prepare for something specific.

- In person: Jakarta and South Tangerang (Tangerang Selatan) only
- Online: via Google Meet or Zoom, from anywhere
