About Me and My Journey

My fascination with Korean culture, K-pop, and dramas began when I was in junior high school, and it has only grown stronger over the years. Back then, I would spend countless hours immersed in Korean music videos and dramas, which sparked my dream of mastering the language.

Fast forward to my high school years, my English teacher once told me, "You’ll become a teacher someday." I laughed it off at the time, but her words stayed with me and eventually became a reality. Teaching my first class was an unforgettable experience—it was both fun and inspiring. This joy is what motivates me to create a learning environment where students can enjoy and explore Korean with ease and confidence.

The quote by Confucius emphasizes the importance of experiential learning and practical application. It suggests that simply hearing about something is not as beneficial as actually hearing it, and hearing it is not as beneficial as seeing it. However, seeing it is not as beneficial as truly understanding it, and understanding it is not as beneficial as actively practicing it. The quote concludes that true learning comes from applying knowledge into action, and once that is achieved, one has truly mastered the subject.

This quote I apply in the classes I teach.

The quote is from Xunzi. Xun Kuang was a Chinese Confucian philosopher who lived from 312-230 BC. His works were compiled into a set of 32 books called Xunzi, by Liu Xiang around 818 AD. There are block copies of these books that are almost 1100 years old.

The 8th book is titled Ruxiao ("The Teachings of the Ru"). The quote above is from Chapter 11 of that book. In Mandarin, the quote is:

不聞不若聞之,聞之不若見之,見之不若知之,知之不若行之;學至於行而止矣。──孔子

Translation:
"Not hearing something is not as good as hearing it; hearing it is not as good as seeing it; seeing it is not as good as knowing it; knowing it is not as good as practicing it." - Confucius
