Tentang Melisa
Having gone through IGCSE and A Levels myself, I believe I make myself an excellent academic mentor to my students. One example would be an IGCSE Mathematics student that has raised her grades from 60-70% to over 90% within 1.5 month of tutoring (2x a week).
I have provenly delivered results, having my own experience in going through these exams, and being the first OCLA awardee from my school.
I was also offered acceptance letters in engineering programs in all 3 QS World Top 100 Universities I’ve applied to.
I believe in making lessons to be interactive and fun — for students to be able to pace themselves and think on their feet effectively when they eventually go through different tests and exams. I have also found that in mathematics, small wins from every question/exercise helps students enjoy mathematics — even when they struggle at it -- and to build confidence. Most of my students already know the right answers, but they doubt themselves.
Having mentored underprivileged students from nearby communities aiming to be university scholars over the past 2.5 years have made me more compassionate and adaptable to different learning styles and personalities. I also help in curriculum transition from national to international curriculum , or even an international curriculum to another international curriculum -- including languages needed to effectively learn and communicate.
I have tutored students from these Surabayan-based schools: IPH, Cita Hati, Sekolah Ciputra, Singapore Intercultural School, MSCS, Cikal, Spins, SGS, Petra Acitya, Godwins, NSA.

My teaching method involves:
> observing how students solve problems to gauge their understanding, and then customizing classes to adapt to their learning styles.
> explaining the concept interactively, following endorsed textbooks
> walking through questions with different difficulty levels, suited to the student’s progress
> ensuring my students to clear all doubts/difficulties
> assigning personalized extra questions and/or quizzes (if needed)
> practicing questions from past papers
> offering the shortcuts/hacks that have helped me and other students in exam preparations
Classes are conducted in English -- with a mix of Indonesian if you're still transitioning to a new curriculum. Classes are also adapted to each student's urgency for exam preparation.
I offer classes in:
- IGCSE/O Level — mainly mathematics, physics, and computer science
- A Level — Mathematics
- IB PYP/MYP and IBDP SL
- GMAT/GRE
- SAT
