Tentang Joella
Joella Viana, BMus(Hons), began her musical journey at the age of six. She studied at Yayasan Musik Jakarta before continuing her musical education at the University of Birmingham, UK, where she earned her Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree and was awarded the Birmingham Foundation Excellence Scholarship.
During her time at the university, she was particularly keen on piano performance, composition, and early music. Awarded with the Birmingham Foundation Academy Excellence Scholarship, she graduated as Bachelor of Music (Hons.) in July 2017.
She has built an active career as a piano educator, alongside involvement in various music projects and concerts. She was awarded the Excellent Teacher Award by Trinity College London Indonesia in 2021 and 2025. In addition to teaching, she also takes on roles as an examiner and adjudicator in music schools and competitions, including the La Pianista Piano Competition.
As a performer, she has appeared in various concerts as both soloist and accompanist - performing for piano, harpsichord, and voice. Some of her past performances in the UK including Mahler’s 8th Symphony at Birmingham Symphony Hall (chorus) with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra in celebration of their 75th season, Orlando Furioso early music project with Musica Secreta, and solo piano recitals incorporating repertoires such as Bach Italian Concerto BMV 971, Beethoven The Tempest sonata, and Debussy Estampes.
Other musical performances include being an accompanist at Paramabira Choir Recita7, conducting at Jaksical JTT3, music scorer at Cikal's annual Playground of Nusantara (2023-2026), and as pianist at various concerts including at Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Goethe-Institut, and Sinfonietta Hall (Singapore).

With more than 10 years of teaching experience, Joella has guided students toward competition achievements and distinctions in international music examinations. Her teaching is rooted in the belief that classical piano education should nurture strong technique, musicality, confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation of music.
This vision led her to found Via Musica, a private piano studio dedicated to providing holistic, student-centred piano education. At the heart of Via Musica’s teaching mission is the desire to shape excellent pianists while nurturing good character through mastery-based learning.
Accepting students from 3.5 years old to adults, from Initial level up to Diploma level, including preparation for ABRSM and Trinity College London examinations.
