I've been training and teaching Bahasa Indonesia to foreign speakers since 2018. My students came from the United States, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, France, Russia, and South Africa for over four years. My students varied from short-term residential to diplomacy business in Indonesia. I have taught approximately more than 30 students until now.

Is Bahasa Indonesia easy to learn?
Bahasa Indonesia is relatively easy to learn since Bahasa Indonesia has consistency in the letter sounds. Indonesia is a multi-ethnic country, meaning Indonesia also has more than thousands of traditional languages, and more than half of Indonesia's population resides in Jakarta. Thus you won't hear only the formal and informal Bahasa Indonesia but also mixed languages of traditional languages and Bahasa Indonesia and even English.
Bahasa Indonesia uses the Latin alphabet so you do not have to learn a new writing system. Also, the pronunciation is consistent meaning there are hardly any trick words, unlike English which has short and long vowels.
Its grammatical structure is very simple. Tenses are not that important and often you can use the root word without modifiers that indicate tense.
Bahasa Indonesia also has a high amount of loan words from other languages, for example: bisnis (business), aktor (actor), fleksibel (flexible).
You may encounter some difficulty when it comes to learning “bahasa sehari-hari” or “daily language”. Indonesians speak very differently in person than in textbooks. There are many slangs, words from local dialects, and contractions used.
Otherwise, if you did not learn Bahasa Indonesia in a formal environment, you may find yourself confused when encountering word tenses only used in formal situations and in official documents. Taking classes with a native tutor might save you time.
